Time Machine to Ancient Egypt

Circa 2055 BC

Mentuhotep II, king of Thebes in southern Upper Egypt, defeats the rulers of Herakleopolis in Middle Egypt, reuniting the country. The Middle Kingdom begins.

Circa 1985 - 1956 BC

Amenemhat I expands Egyptian territory south into Nubia, begins trade with Asia and the Aegean.

Circa 1956 - 1911

Senusret I founds the temple of Karnak at Thebes.

Circa 1877 - 1870 BC

Senusret II constructs the Faiyum irrigation scheme, a dyke and series of canals to provide water to the Faiyum oasis.

Circa 1650 BC

The royal court established at Lisht in the 12th Dynasty is abandoned and moved to Thebes, beginning the Second Intermediate Period.

Circa 1560 BC

War begins between Thebes and the Asiatic rulers of the Nile Delta.

Circa 1532 - 1528 BC

Conquest of the capital of the Hyksos (Asiatic) kings at Avaris, in the eastern Delta, by Theban king Ahmose. Later reunification of Egypt marks start of New Kingdom.

Circa 1504 - 1492 BC

Thutmose I begins violent military campaigns that eventually annex Nubia into Egypt.
