This is the Hieroglyphic Alphabet. It can be written from rows or columns, from the left to the right, or vice versa. You can tell whether it is in rows or columns, depending on if the text is divided by a vertical or horizontal line, and as a general rule, all animals look towards wherever you are supposed to start reading. That made it possible for symmetrical writing on the walls of tombs and temples.
