Bread
If
an Egyptian housewife wanted to make bread, she would have had to get
grain from her granary and grind it into flour. Then she would have
mixed the flour with water and shaped the dough into loaves of many
shapes and sizes. If she wanted to, she could add a flavouring, such
as garlic. Then she would bake it.
Beer
If an Egyptian
housewife wanted to make beer she would have had to do the same thing
as with bread except when she made the loaves, she would bake them very
lightly. The loaves would be crumbled, mixed with water and left to
ferment and become beer. Then she would strain it.
Wine
The Egyptians trained grape vines to grow over wooden
trellises. When the grapes were ripe enough they were picked and placed
in a stone trough. The men trampled on them to extract the juice, which
ran out through a funnel and was caught and put in wine jars (Just hope
the men remembered to wash their feet before trampling on the grapes!).
The men left the jars open until the wine had fermented, then the jars
were sealed with mud stoppers.
